Research Beginnings

HOMER (Hybrid Optimization of Multiple Electric Renewables) was developed at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) by Dr. Peter Lilienthal and his team to help design off-grid power systems.

2000

Public Release

HOMER was released as free software, quickly becoming the most widely used tool for designing hybrid renewable energy systems in remote areas worldwide.

HOMER Energy Founded
